To be Human

It doesn’t take much to be human
Limbs twisted
Wracked by spasms
Mouth askance
Dribbling
The smile is in the eyes

It doesn’t take much to be human
Tortured mind
Self-loathing
Arms scarred
Inner pain
Peace at last in sleep

It doesn’t take much to be human
Blank eyes
Minus the spark
Of a questioning mind
Now lost Rare moments of clarity
It doesn’t take much to be human
But to be
Someone’s child
To share a touch
Reflected love
The spark of the Divine
