On the walk home from
Friday night prayers,
a route they take every week
a voice shouts,
telling them to f* off,
Hitler should have finished the job,
Jews control the Government, banks,
on and on threatening, spitting out abuse
knocking their hats to the ground.
In the lamp-lit darkness
such anger, violence is a shock;
they’ve lived here for years,
always giving, helping.
The Rabbi has an MBE
for services to the local community,
setting up drugsline for anyone needing support
regardless of faith.
They are scared,
images of Nazi Germany,
the march on Cable Street
still vivid in their minds.
the community security team
will accompany them
the short distance from synagogue to home,
in this North East London suburb.
